Solitude
An excerpt from Henry David Thoreau's Walden, “Solitude” was typeset and designed using entirely creative-commons resources, and only two spot colors. A minimalist sans serif was used throughout the piece to convey the sense of simplicity and solitude in Thoreau’s writing, while ephemeral images draw on the raw and organic subject of his story. The final design was printed on natural paper and carefully hand-bound with a burlap-paper cover, giving the reader a tactile sense of the natural and simplistic content of the excerpt.
